Expert Corner Torque Wrenches

When looking for your perfect tool for tightening or untightening, consider that each tool has its own performance scale depending on its design, and it will reach a given level of torque after a different amount of time.

Difference between torque values expert article

There is no industry standard to measuring and reporting on torque values, and torque is presented differently by tool manufacturers. The various methods of measuring torque have ultimately led to much confusion amongst tool users for whom values are important when choosing their operating equipment.

In this video our expert Damien Feller cuts through the confusion, outlining the torque values that are important to consider and demonstrates the difference between working torque and maximum torque with a real life example such as untightening bolts. Tools performance can only be measured in real world applications and Damien explains how operators know that they are using the right tool or not, for the job.

“Torque value shouldn’t be your only consideration, it’s important to look at data that can be easily compared, for example, timing, hose length or air pressure. Ultimately, there is nothing better than real life tests.”

What can I do to limit vibrations for the operator? What solution exist on the market to reduce grinder’s vibrations?

Limiting vibrations – it’s all in the balance

17 September, 2018

Power tools are a key to productivity in the oil & gas or the metal working industry. Maintenance and production tasks must be carried out efficiently, however intensive use of vibrating power tools, such as grinders, can expose operators to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS). How can we reduce risks, improve productivity and reduce abrasive costs at the same time?

Tools calibration: why is it important?

20 August, 2018

Calibration process is a vital step in ensuring tools are working as they should be, giving correct readings, providing a safe working environment for end-users, and ensuring that companies are upholding their legal obligations. However, calibration is often confused with accuracy and precision. Here we explore what exactly is meant by calibration and why it’s so important.

How to prevent hose whiplash

16 July, 2018

Providing a safe working environment for operators is essential, especially when using pneumatic tools and compressed air. If there is a failure in the air network and the hose is not adequately clamped, the resulting whiplash could be devastating. Failure to follow best practice can result in injuries, associated production downtime and decreased productivity.
